Where to put a Ban and whom to stop?

Honey Singh the yo-yo one.. being slammed by Women activists for his lyrics..saying his lyrics are demeaning and derogatory for females...
Who all r we gonna stop!
Authors who are sexist.. well there are many who try n include such content in some or the other way in their Novels...Do I need to name!? Or we know enough of them!

Film industry that runs on women exploitation ..or Advertisement industry in which almost every adv has a Semi-clad female.. even in the adv of Paints ! ! ! Here I should say ThankGod for whatever clothing she gets!
And the cherry on the cake is when those hardly clad females dance to raunchy numbers and in such a way that at times I feel we are directed to a site that serves pornography! Isn't this demeaning?

No I am not targetting someone or some company in particular.. it has been long since our world runs on
showing skimpily clad females..

Internet, Print Media - Magazines, Newspapers...Aah that reminds me there is a brand of Newspaper very famous here in Bhopal..which for every single reason..
Be it the first showers of Rain or the Torturous Summer heat or the Chilly winters or the local Haat.. posts a pic of females enjoying them..
Why not Kids?
Why not old aged couples?
Why not a family as a whole..?

No they cant do that .. Why cant they do that
Because we belong to a society that has a sick mindset..

A society who sings and dances to the tunes of the most raunchiest item numbers....with full happiness?!!

Who feels the advertisements which represent nudity n sexual content r normal.. I am just curious to know
Where Exactly r we supposed to draw a line? and who all should be slammed or stopped from disrespecting women?!

Mind well here we r talking not just about Mindset change we are talking about a paradigm shift.. R we ready for this?!

न सिर्फ खुद बदलें बल्कि बदलाव लायें।

To wish Happy 2013 or to Pray for better Year ?

Hey!

Happy New Year to all of you ..

Me planning "No celebration" for the New Years.. for the first time don't feel like celebrating from within..

Just hoping n Praying that

2013 would bring
More Useful and Practically Implementable laws to keep us safe..

More Humanity to make all of us humane and sensible :)
(Including the Illiterate and Ignorant crowd which usually is involved in anti-social activities)

More courage to enable us fight or stop Eve-teasing on time at the proper moment..

More Values & Sanskaar which we can teach our kids to cultivate a better society!

More Business sense so that we earn more and then donate All the more to charity :)

More presence of mind to Stop Global warming and spread  awareness among others!

More Time to spend with Family and Friends and for the betterment of Ourselves ..

More Happiness and Positivism to spread it across to everyone we meet!

More Strength to
                           Fight all odds,
Do away with all the negativity
                           Power to Forget and Forgive

Basically "Neki kar Dariya mein daal.. " (Hindi proverb)

(You know why we say Dariya mein daal.. because among all the water bodies it the SEA which throws things back.. it doesn't keep anything with it.. it throws back.. so when you do good and throw it in the SEA it Would Definitely Positively Come Back To You)

All of this reminds me on this one song

Make the world .. Make it a better place.. for you and for me and For the entire Human race..

Lets try and make this world ..really really a better place for everyone around..

Herez wishing all of you a blessed and blissful - 2013

When God Answers your Small Small Prayers- Incident No -2

Hey thr!

(Courtesy for reminding this incident goes to Anand Agnihotri)
After completion of my Graduation final exams in the month of April-May me and 3 friends of mine
Shikha, Dutta and Manju started planning and preparing for our Entrance exams for MHsc.

Our first visit to was to City of Dreams - Mumbai, was in May 2003 to fill the forms for entrance-exams at Nirmala Niketan and SNDT Juhu, along with 2 elder brothers coz our parents felt we were not old enough to travel to a city like Mumbai(we stayed in Surat which is 5 hours from Mumbai)...that too without any elders..And now I feel following it was such a nice decision :)

Bhai log dropped us to Nirmala Niketan and since they had some work we were supposed to go to SNDT (Juhu) on our own and get back to Mumbai Central as soon as the work got finished!

Like obedient kids after completion of filling of forms, we returned back to Mumbai Central station almost 2 hours before the departure of our train. We thought of getting some good snacks which according to our Elder Brothers would be available only outside the station.
So we moved out.
We were walking on a pavement and had to cross the road to find some good eatery.

I am usually very keen on reading traffic signs or other sign like
"Sharp turn - Go Slow"  "No Parking"  "One-way"   "U-turn"  "School ahead"  "Silence zone"  "Speed limit"
And
I read this one too - (Non-followers would be fined)

So, when we were about to cross the road I read this signboard -  "Heavy traffic, Use subway" and among all 6 of us I was the one who kept insisting - Lets walk a little more and cross the road using the sub-way but everyone else was like determined - Not to walk any further and just cross the road..

So I gave in but made sure that I would be in the middle of the line (because I was very scared of getting caught since we were doing something Not As Per The Law...)

I saw the traffic policeman duly performing his duty inspite of the traffic signals performing correctly..
( I often feel bad for them since they perform such a Thankless job and that too at times in real harsh weathers! )

We were crossing the road and I had barely crossed the traffic policeman...When He Blew His Whistle...

THAT WAS IT ...
I SPRANG TO MY FEET AND STARTED RUNNING AT FULL SPEED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION LIKE CRAZY ...
THINKING THAT ..
The Policeman was coming to catch me and he would put me behind the bars (and that made me so damn scared).. I started praying Oh God please save me..Oh God please save me
and in this entire process .. I was running like crazy
And then someone caught hold of my backpack shouting "Stop ..Stop"

My eyes were closed and I was babbling "No....No... Please don't catch me.. Please leave me..Please leave me..I'll pay the fine..Please let me go"

Words would never be enough to describe the amount of fear that I had in me at that time...and then suddenly I heard Dutta's voice.."Nidhi Shu thayu?" oh thats Gujarati.. It means "Nidhi what happened ?"

And I was totally confused for few seconds..

And then the other 4 of us came and started laughing..

It was then I realised that the Traffic policeman had blown the whistle as a part of his routine - activity of handling the traffic
which I thought was because I had broken the law.. aah but ultimately God had answered my prayer! ! :)

Everyone of us had a hearty laugh after that...

Even today while remembering this incident I am getting goosebumps.. :)

Thats all!

Continue sorrindo (Keep Smiling)

"Kanya bhoj" in Navratri

Hey Everyone,

Hope you all are doing enjoying three Garba/ Dandia Dance in Navratri or just enjoying the music when you hear it from the loudspeakers :)

I have spent my childhood and graduation days in Gujarat and that's why I am a diet-hard Garba fan though I do not go to the dance programs all the 9 days but I enjoy listening to the sounds that keep coming from the loudspeakers :)

"Kanya bhoj" is an important feature in Navratri. In my family and amongst the relatives it is a custom to call small girls for having a Lunch usually n the 9th day of Navratri.

I feel very good when small girls come all decked up in their new clothes and vibrant accessories - hair bands and pins, necklaces, nice looking handkerchiefs, beautiful sandals etc.

But what is a bit disappointing is that

1) The girls are supposed to go to so many places on the same day and for the same meal that they are not able to enjoy the food at any place

2) They get very exhausted roaming from one home to another.

3) The food also gets wasted..

What I feel is that we should come out of our mental barriers and try to include some new things like

1) Calling the girls to eat on all the days of Navratri starting from the 1st day.

2) If possible the lower class and the lower middle class girls should be invited.

These little girls should also be given food packets which they can take back with themselves which would be sufficient enough to feed at least 2-3 or even 4-5 of the family members, that would be charity in real sense.

(We do this :) )

3) During Navratri people who feel Kanya/little girls are the avatar of Nav durga should keep things like food packets/ utensils/ packet of biscuits/ homemade snacks/ other gifts
and should carry them especially while going to and returning from the office.

4) People can also make visits to the local basti area and distribute food packets themselves without involving any NGO or any group as such (because all such groups are generally interested in doing publicity of their group)

5) And last but not the least.. its not just Navratri that Deviji would be happy if you keep doing such philanthropic acts all round the year.
Something like sponsering their education or tution fees or sports equipments or uniforms or game equipments or etc etc it can be any thing and everything that you can think of and that cmoes within your budget...

Deviji is able to see and observe your acts all round the year 24x7x365. :)

Hope this gives an idea to interested people!

Guten Tag! (Good Day)

English Vinglish ! Sridevi is a super amazing Actress...

Hey friends!

Hope you all have been doing gr8!
After a long break of watching movies, reasons for the break partly because there were no great movies coming up and Majorly because I feel lil Kaanha (my son) deserves more of the outdoor activities.

Due to this reason since past few months our outings were limited to evening or morning walks at Kalisot dam (a wonderful small dam near to our place, just a 3 minutes drive ) or the big parks where he would play with the Ball or just roam about and enjoy his evenings or early mornings :)
Oh well Did I divert from the title .. well Yes I was talking about the recent movie that I saw 'English Vinglish' (on 5th Oct last show) .. and I must say I simply loved the movie.

Not to mention Sridevi's acting is so very natural, the concept is good and new and the movie has a good pace..Well I am no film critic like Anupama Chopra or Mayank Shekhar.. but in my personal opinion I liked the movie.
Sridevi took a sabbatical of almost 15 years but Man... She just doesn't look like that........Not at all!!!!!
Her skin, Her figure.. her comic timing :) (which I have always loved) and her super expressions and super natural acting....uhh I just loved her in the movie !

A few things that I feel were really interesting about the movie was the display of the normal Indian Mom..in this case a Maharasthrian Home maker( I personally always refrain from the term Housewife coz I feel it just doesn't justify the Responsibilities and Duties of the Lady of the House)

The lady of the house in the movie
1) Gets up early and is done with her morning routine and is already done with the preparation of breakfast and also the tiffins for the family.
2) Doesn't get angry (even when her son tells her that her daughter has been to the Cafe Coffee Day outlet with friends including guys and not for a group study )
3) Apart from the daily activities of Laundry and Housekeerping and Cooking for the family she also manages to run a small business of her own - Making Ladoos!
4) She goes personally to each household to deliver her handmade ladoos. A very important part of business.
5) She saves money that she gets on selling her ladoos (since Saving is a virtue!) and uses that when she needs to join a language class.
6) She is told by a stranger that she is one of the most beautiful females he has come across and yet she doesn't let that become a dent to her already settled married life!
7) She misses her final exam of the language class just to make laddoos for her niece's wedding return gift.
8) She keeps her language class a surprise for every1 around except her niece who comes to know about it somehow and then helps her a lot.
9) She makes no air or boasting in front of the same family who doesn't respect her because of her lesser or no knowledge of English.
10) Last but not the least when asked to give blessings to a newly wed couple for whose marriage she had been to: She describes the Family as the most important bond explaining the fact that Come what may its your family who would always support you and stand by you.. even when her family dint do so!

These are the things which I observed and felt somewhere deep in my heart that at times we forget to respect our Mothers...there might be times when we try to Teach them things stating the fact that they Donot know it...
We have the complete right to tell them whats right and whats not but not at all at The Cost Of Their Self Respect.
If you are a girl and reading this make sure you take your Mum to go and watch the movie.. And Yes she says it right: "You would realise it When you become a Mom/Parent"

She is the most Special human Being to have come to Your Life and No1 else can take her place.
Take time out for your Mum and if needed agree to her statements and decisions without questioning them for once and for sometime... answer her anger with lots of love.. her worries for you with lots of concern instead of back answering n saying - "Mum you needn't worry bout me M old enough!"

Remember its only one life and you have only one Mother and
God knows for how long you may be together..
I might be sounding like a forwarded msg text but this is what came Straight from the heart.

Kocham Cię Mamo
I Love you Mamma!!!

Handwritten letters a thing of past but oh so important!

Hello All!

We all stay in a world which is extremely well connected! Social networking has brought all of us close..we can check each others updates regularly, can get in touch with anyone anytime, can email each other anytime of the day and it reaches the receiver within seconds..send each other e-cards and Mobile connectivity..How could I forget that! Every person is an SMS away Or Just a call away (even International ones!)

But still I feel Handwritten letters have their own charm and beauty!
Few days back was cleaning up my desk when I found a big envelope with many letters that I received during my school n college days.. almost a span of 20 years.. It contained letters and cards addressed to me.. And once the envelope was opened I could not stop myself from reading all that one by one ( M blessed that my kiddo slept early to let me do all this ) And it brought back all the memories of the past 20 years.. one by one..

Can't describe the state of peace and satisfaction that I experienced.by reading them :)
And the best part was these all letters were a response to the letters that I sent them!

This all started with the festival of Rakhi! The preparations for Rakhi at my place would begin about 2 months in advance..we even used to make the Rakhis at home.. back in my school days!
It was my Mum who handed me the responsibility of writing handwritten letters along with the Rakhi envelope during my primary school days :)
Slowly and gradually I became used to writing one letter in every quarter.
I liked to describe the new happenings of my life to a few who were close.. and slowly and gradually I became so addicted to writing that Come What May.. I used to take out time to write letters and felt it to be a very nice way of entertainment as well as a way to enhance my writing skills as well as skills of describing things...

And this has been a routine since then..every Rakhi my relatives wait for the Handwritten Letter that comes along with the Rakhi!
Marriage and a kid had decreased the length of my letters to one small page of half A4 size page, which initially were about 2-3 A4 size pages.. So this Rakhi I made it a point that I write the same lengthy Rakhi letters and send it to everyone.. And I was more than delighted to get a call from my Bhabhis the very day that they received the letter stating that...

Oh it was so very good to read your long letter after such a long time! We have read it and re-read it so many times! Now we'll also continue writing at least 1 letter in a year! And we'll also try to instill the same habit in our kids.. Letters are really so important! Thank you for taking time out to write such a big letter and also post in before hand so that it reaches before time!

And I felt so good! Both coz I wrote them and coz I got such a nice response!

How many of you prefer handwritten letters? At least Reading if not writing !!!
Si te gusta leer la carta escrita a mano escribir una carta a un ser cercano y ver cómo se sienten especiales!
( If you like reading handwritten letter write a letter to a close one and see how Special they feel!)
:)

Nidhi

Whats the score ? ..... Hopeless!

On reading the title I am sure many of you might have already guessed that I am going to talk about Cricket. Bingo!
But this statement was not uttered by a Teenage boy or his father or his grandfather....
This statement was uttered by my Nani and infact this was her signature statement whenever India played bad..
If she did not like the score - it was always termed as hopeless
I visited my grandparents every summers so it was approximately 20 days at Dadi's place and 20 days at Nanis place.

Nani looked like the typical grandmums who have grey hair and dark rimmed old fashioned spectacles and used to wear soft cotton saris. Her chandan ka teeka is what I remember very very clearly.

A little that I can say about my Nani - Shrimati Sundar Agnihotri - is an extremely Positive person, whose aura of positivity made everyone around also Positive!

A Sports lover and an ardent cricket FAN, A gossip lover (she could gossip with people of different age groups simultaneosuly), Expert in playing Chess, Bridge, Carrom you name it and she knows it. She knew the World geography on her fingertips, knew a zillion of Mantras Shlokas and Bhajans had a story for almost all the festivals on all the 365 days of the year :) and she was ambidextrous- I was a fan of her handwriting more so because her handwriting was beautiful and the same by both the hands :)
I liked watching her play Carrom and Chess with my cousin brother (her grandson)

Nani used to be very much engrossed in her Puja, she did the lengthy Puja - twice a day and it lasted for (if I remember it correctly) almost 2 hours.

The days when there was a Match she used to take breaks between her Puja, come near to the TV screen and have a close look at the score... For us waiting to Nani coming to see the score was more important than the Match itself  : P
If the score was good she used to get a faint smile on her face and stayed back for a few more minutes to see India playing
and just in case if the score was something like

i.e.: 75/2...Huhhh HOPELESS and immediately went back to resume her Puja :)

And all of us used to burst out laughing!!
Such a reaction from a Lady who was 70 plus was indeed hilarious! We all enjoyed Nani's reactions to the score rather than the match itself : )

A few things that I learnt from her are
Age is just a number
Gossip  on any topic under the sun except for people keeps you happy and thougtful!
Always have interest in games of all sorts they keeo you young and active both physically and mentally..
and ofcourse
Performing Pooja and watching Cricket are 2 things can be done simultaneously with equal dedication!

When God Answers your Small Small Prayers- Incident No -1

Hey everyone!

I know this line is very familiar to all of us...coz although there are some times when our Biggest desires are not fulfilled and we become upset..but more than that what happens majority of the times is that - God answers our small small prayers..so soon and just coz those things were not in the top priority list..we tend to forget those small blessings.

I would be putting up a series of blog posts on this topic and would also like you all to put in your similar stories in short in the comment section. Write about that time, when you wished for something very small, very minute.. hardly in the list of important things in your life,
and they got fulfilled at the drop of a hat!

I dedicate this series to the Super Power I believe in :) and his name is- 'Mere Bhagwanjee'

The first incident that I can remember when I first think of the line:
When God Answers you small small prayers!

Oh well this again dates back to my stay in Mumbai..Actually I have always liked the city for its speed, energy, enthusiasm..and though only for a few months, I simply cherished my stay in Mumbai.
This is about the time when I had just started off with my job May 2005. At Lilavati, we had a software to enter Patient details, almost every big hospital has such softwares. I was very happy when I saw the software, as I have been used to using Computer keyboard that too with shortcuts right from the year 2000. But somehow this software was very weird.....

First of all I din't like its look and feel...Secondly I couldnt work at it with the same speed with which I normally work on the PC/Laptop.
Thirdly the moment I made a mistake, it seemed as if Gauri (My Boss) was waiting to blast at me...

I was utterly frustrated with that stupid software..
In my previous post- "Mumbai floods -1" I already described that I used to take Bus No 86 to go to and come back from Lilavati. My hostel was located at such place that daily while going and returning I used to pass through Siddhivinayak temple.. and I got this chance to Pray to Ganpati Bappa ekdum paas se everyday! :) (Although now there is a huge boundary wall enlosing the temple...how lucky I was that it wasnt there at my time!)
After few days of joining I was super duper frustrated with the sofware, and one day while returning back from Lilavati when my bus passed through Siddihivinayak, I prayed from the bottom of my heart

"Bhagwanji bohot ho gaya ab, us Gauri ka aur us Software ka kuch karo please... agar aap Gauri ka kuch nai kar sakte toh koi baat nai...pleasee woh software kharab kar do...."

When I reached the hostel the routine started, arranging the room, having dinner, reading newspaper, miscellaneous stuff and sleeping early..
Next day, I had a 11am shift and as soon as I reached I saw Gauri, Ashmi , Tejal and Nilofar was getting panicky and all. it took me hardly a few seconds to figure out what had happened..
                  Any guesses?

THE SOFTWARE HAD CRASHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Words cannot describe my happiness and thankfulness to 'Mere Bhagwanjee'. Still I managed and tried to be very sympathetic towards them and starting thinking of an option that would be most suitable to me.

Voila! Witihin an hour I created Sheets on MS Excel and applied shortcuts and since that day we started using my Excel sheets for entering Patient details.

Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed jotting it down.

Good Luck !Stay Safe!

Mumbai floods - 1

Was just zapping through News Channels when all I could see about the rainy season was..Rain Rain everywhere! Floods at some places and No Rain at some.

That reminded me of the time when I was in Mumbai and Mumbai faced its worst ever flood - 26th July 2005.
I worked as a Trainee Dietician at Radha Krishna Hospitality Services (Now taken over by SODEXO) at Lilavati Hospital. Like everyday I left my hostel at 5:30 am to catch my Bus No 86, got down at Bandra, got into the same rickshaw I used everyday and reached the hospital by 6:15am.
The daily routine started: Preparing Kitchen order tickets (popularly known as KOTs), standing near the conveyor belt to send trays to the rooms; If I am remembering it correctly there were about 200 Patients on that day.
In the meantime my other colleagues Gauri (my boss) Tejal, Nilofar, Shikha and Dutta arrived, and with every person arriving the only thing we would discuss was: It's raining heavily, this road is filled with knee deep water, that road is filled with knee deep water.
Gauri my boss came at about 11am and as usual was planning to leave early and she actually left at about 3:45pm.
The first time she went downstairs she came back saying that roads are filled with knee deep waters, I'll wait for some time and then go. She was all set with everything ready and within next half an hour she again headed to leave but was sent back by the security stating: Madam its not safe to go water levels are increasing..She again came back..
I swear I was so happy that she had to come back, every other day she would have to leave early due to some reason or the other and she made me sit for few more hours almost daily :P
Then it was my time to go both theoretically and practically, so as I was preparing to leave, we got the information that all roads near the hospital are covered in more than waist deep waters and that no employee should go out of the hospital for safety reasons. I took a deep breath and continued with the work.
And then the fact dawned on all of us that: Okay..... We Are Caught in a Flood and We Will Have To Stay Back!
In the meanwhile all of us started receiving calls from our homes and my, Shikha and Dutta's parents were all panicky....... reasons 1)Courtesy: News Channels which showed horrifying scenes of the flood 2) Because they we were in a different city and too far from them. We were instructed to switch off our cellphones so that we can save on the battery life.
After our Dinner we went out in the lobby of 4th floor. 4th floor consisted of Kitchen and Doctors dining area and the staff's dining area.
And the scene that we saw from there was scary...very scary..
all we could see was water water everywhere..cars stuck..with some cars almost covered in water and some covered till the windows..people standing in waist deep waters
And it was then we realised that the we were in a problem and we really dint know what was ahead..
But I consider myself really blessed because I was stuck at a place which was clean hygienic, had access to electricity, food and almost all basic necessities..

With the work done for the day.... we all left for the dining room where the tables were cleared to make some place for 5 of us to sleep. We were provided with 4 blankets to sleep.
And as all of us lied down..the horror stories about the Hospital setup that circulated widely by word of mouth were now being told to us ..me, Shikha and Dutta.

For rest of the story wait for Part 2

My experience of 1st Anaemia Awareness camp(of 2012) at SVNIT Surat

Hello everyone!

Hope you all have read my previous blog Which Explicitly Expresses My Distrust and Doubts in the Google Adsense Service...Well for that reason I feel blogs are a perfect way of expressing things that one feels and also sharing them with the outside world!

I have another blog on nutrition titled: Healthizens Blog
Many of you might ask WHY? Well the reason I have is because I want an alltogether different target audience for Both! Sounds Justifiable Enough! I hope so :)

Just a brief introduction: I am a Diet & Nutrition Consultant by Profession and was associated with FOGSI (Federation of obstetric & Gynaecologists of India) in their campaign of Anaemia Awareness.
And precisely this was the reason I had been to SVNIT Girls Hostel.. Oh well SVNIT stands for - SARDAR VALLABHBHAI PATEL NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. My sincere Thanks to Dr.Sanjay Shah the Head of the Health Department at SVNIT.

I had almost 125 students for the lecture and a few Staff Members.

I really enjoyed giving the lecture primarily because it was the first time I was conducting a lecture from 9:15pm-10:15pm and secondly because the students Did Ask Questions in the end!

I remember one of our faculty Mr.Jimmy Kapadia (in MBA) who used to say: 'You people don't have any questions? No questions means Either you understood Everything Or you didn't understand ANYTHING, And usually the latter that holds true'

The lecture started with the FOGSI Anthem, my brief introduction ( Yes I had purposely asked them to keep it in just 2 lines)
The lecture as usual to over by before the scheduled time.. I have this habit of finishing my lectures usually  Before Time! This gives me a bit of extra time to interact with students and answer their queries And Yes I can very well detect the relaxed look on the face of the students as soon as they hear : "Okay we are done for the day"

Although the students were not very quiet and disciplined (what else would you expect from a batch of students after a tiring day!) during the entire lecture but they weren't non-manageable either!

After my talk Dr.Sanjay Shah had a talk of 7 minutes and although I was aware of the fact that SVNIT invests a lot of money for Students Health but to this extent I hadn't even imagined! The Health Department was ready to provide girls with
1) Iron- Folic Acid supplements on a regular basis But with the condition that they would not be given to the students to carry instead they will have to take those tabs in the Mess itself.
2) Deworming tablets with the same condition.
3) Complete Blood Count checked at a very Nominal Rate.
4) Make changes in the Mess Food Plan to adjust with these nominal deficiency problems (Obviously they asked me to do that)
But the whole point here is that the College is so eager to help out the students especially in such an aspect which majority of students face who are staying in hostels.
I have given them a Thumbs up! Lets see when things materialize...

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed giving the lecture..I had taken Anaemia Awareness camps in 2 schools - Lourdes Convent  & Lancers Army and 1 college- SNDT Commerce College located in Surat in 2009.

And this time it was my initiative to call Institutes and ask them if they were willing to conduct such activity.
Although I knew Dr.Sanjay being super enthusiastic about Health of students would be anxious to conduct it I didnt know it would be within 2 days of calling him!
Thanks a tonn Dr.Sanjay Shah for providing me this opportunity! Really look forward to see other colleges espcially NIT's to follow SVNIT's footsteps.

An angel who offered us Lift in his Car

Hey everyone!

Hope you all ave been doing great as always :) M here to share another interesting incident of my life.

This goes back to 2003 in between May-June.
I had given my entrance exams for MHSc Nutrition and was awaiting the results. As expected I had cleared the entrance exam of Nirmala Niketan, which sadly none of my friends did. (We were four of us who had given entrance exams for MHSc - Shikha, Dutta, Manju and Me)

I was obviously bursting with joy since I was very much keen in getting an admission in Mumbai :)
Mumbai rains and their nature are known by everyone..If not by personal experience by other people's  experiences.

As it was raining heavily in Mumbai we felt it was safer if we reached a day earlier, So I left with my Father a day prior to the date of interview and reached Mumbai on evening to join my Chachi who was already staying at Shantidoot Hotel in Dadar East because of her Chemotherapy sessions.

It kept pouring the whole night. The next morning when me and Papa got ready, It Was Still Pouring!

But how much had it poured the previous night dawned on to us only when we stepped out of the hotel. the water was knee deep, obviously we had to fold our clothes above the knee... This was just the beginning...

As we moved ahead we realized that the water levels kept rising, and the highest level I remember is the water was 3 inches above my knee level. Still we managed to somehow drag ourselves and move further. A gentleman walking beside us somehow realised that we were Non-Mumbaikars and advised us

"Zara dhyaan se chalneka.....kuch Manholes ka dhakkan khula reta hai"

I am really Thankful to him till date. After that we started walking even more slowly and carefully and reached a Flyover only to realise (after a discussion with few people out there) that we would not get any TAXIs to Central. We had kept a margin of 3 and half hours... but heavy downpour and not getting a Cab would worsen our woes, still me n Papa kept walking over the bridge and reached the mid of it.

Now What? Where to go? We stopped there for a few minutes and were thinking when an Old Maruti 800 (Green colour) stopped by us and a Gentleman clad in his Formals and wearing Silver rimmed spectacles (must be in his 30's)
opened the window and asked Papa "Sir, Kaha jaana hai aapko"

Papa: "Nirmala Niketan jaana hai, bacchi ka interview hai "
Gentleman: "Sir Main aapko Central tak drop kar sakta hoon, vaha se aapko Cab mil jayegi, yaha se toh aapko door door tak kahi Cab nai Milegi"

Papa: "Okay"

As if we had an option. Without much thinking we accepted his offer. He seemed to be a very humble person, while driving he guided Papa about how to go ahead from where he would drop us and by the time he had explained us the route to reach Nirmala Niketan, we already reached the point where he would drop us. We thanked him although Thanking for Just simply Not Enough for this kind gesture of His...

(He and Papa exchanged their names for Intro..but I donot remember his name)

He wished both of us - All the Best :) and left.

We took the route and means of transport suggested by him and reached our destination On Time!

Aah! for me he was God sent, He was an angel! If he would not have offered us the Lift, there was no way we could have reached Nirmala Niketan On time!

After this incident my respect for Mumbaikars increased tremendously! And Yes Since then I always make it a point that on my way to a certain place, If I can be of some help to someone in need, I surely do my bit.
And I guess thats what all of us should do :) What say?
